Industry Leaders’ Good Works Deserve Duplication

Undoubtedly, companies that perform good works for the community and the environment enjoy some positive marketing benefits from their efforts—the “halo effect.” But who can begrudge them those positive responses when their efforts truly are helping the greater good? Recently, two news releases we received promoted some positive steps industry leaders have taken that set the example for others. One, OHL, has joined thousands of other firms in making a commitment to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution by joining the Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partnership. Another, DHL, recently shipped thousands of laptops to Haiti to help educate schoolchildren in the earthquake-devastated country. (Read details on both events at our website: www.couriermagazine.com.) While not every company has the resources to impact the world at these same levels, every small step we take adds up. Give some thought to how you and your company can have a positive impact on our world. It makes a difference. Truly.

DHL Deeds Land to Ohio Port Authority

Earlier this month, DHL deeded the country's largest privately owned airport to the Clinton County (Ohio) Port Authority, paving the way for redevelopment of the site. The 1,500-acre Wilmington Air Park employed more than 8,000 and was the largest employer in a six-county region of southwest Ohio until DHL Express closed its national hub there last year.

Included in the property transer are about 1,500 acres of land and several buildings located, for the most part, "inside the fence" of the airport. ATSG, ABX Air and AMES all will continue their leases of buildings at the airport.

Up and Coming

We've certainly got a couple of things cooking for the next issue of Courier Magazine. However, we are always looking for user input.

If there's something you want the courier industry to know about, whether it be a new piece of technology, better service or a press release about a change in your business, Courier Magazine wants to know about it.

Help us better serve the industry.

One of the few ways you can do so is by following our Twitter and Facebook pages...as well as this blog. Both locations are good options for staying up to date on what's happening at the magazine.

If you haven't received the new issue yet, you are in for a treat. The medical courier story turned out very well. Thanks to all of the contributors who gave the article multiple perspectives on the business and service.

And as always, thanks to our sponsors and advertisers.
